NTI seeks student president-for-a-day (http://www.nunatsiaqonline.ca/stories/article/65674nti_seeks_student_president-for-a-day/)
Nunavut Inuit high school students can apply for July 9 position

If you’re a high school student in Nunavut, here’s an opportunity for you to what you’d do as president of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.

NTI is accepting applications for its “President for a Day Contest,” which is open to Inuit youth attending high school until April 26.

NTI president Cathy Towtongie launched the contest earlier this year as part events around the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement on July 9.

Eligible high school students who wish to enter the contest must write a 500-word speech about Nunavut and the 20th anniversary of the NLCA.

The winner of the contest will deliver this speech at the unveiling of the 20th anniversary monument in Iqaluit on Nunavut Day, July 9.

The winner will also co-host Nunavut Day activities with Towtongie “and perform other duties as required,” a news release from NTI said.

The winner will be awarded two return airline tickets from his or her home community or place of residence to Iqaluit.

These tickets will be used to fly the winner and an adult chaperone to Iqaluit to deliver the speech on Nunavut Day. Meals and accommodations will also be paid for by NTI.

But, if the winner already lives in Iqaluit, a cash prize of $1,500 will be awarded.

You can read more about the contest here (http://www.tunngavik.com/files/2013/01/10436.1Rules-Contest-Form-ENG.pdf).

Submissions can be sent to NTI’s Iqaluit office via Canada Post or by email to contest@tunngavik.com.
